To use a manual breast pump like the one pictured, follow these general steps:

Assemble the pump:

Ensure all parts are clean and properly assembled according to the manufacturer's instructions. This typically involves attaching the flange (breast shield) to the pump body and handle, and then connecting the bottle to the pump body. 

Position the flange:

Center your nipple within the flange tunnel. The flange should fit comfortably and create a seal around your breast, minimizing the amount of areola pulled into the tunnel. 

Initiate milk flow (Let-down phase):

Begin with short, quick pumps to stimulate milk flow, mimicking a baby's initial sucking rhythm. 

Expression phase:

Once milk starts flowing, switch to slower, deeper pumps to efficiently express milk. Adjust the rhythm as needed to maximize milk output. 

Collect and store milk:

Milk will collect in the attached bottle. Once pumping is complete, detach the bottle and store the expressed milk appropriately, labeling with the date and time. 

Clean the pump:

After each use, disassemble and thoroughly clean all pump parts that came into contact with milk.
